The Pediatric College of Chongqing Medical University (CQMU) was established in 1956, growing out of Pediatric Department of Fudan University (the present Shanghai First Medical College). The College is the first authorization center for master's, doctor's and postdoctoral programs in China and among first institutions named as ‘National Key Discipline’, ‘National Excellent Course’ and ‘National Level Teaching Team’. As the largest training center for pediatric doctors in China and the state continuing education center of pediatrics, it undertakes the education tasks of undergraduates, graduates, postgraduates and post-doctors majoring in pediatrics as well as the teaching tasks of clinical training, standardized training for physicians, etc.
With an annual enrollment of 400-500 undergraduates, graduates and postgraduates, the College has advanced and complete teaching equipments plus clinical skill training rooms for the learning and simulated training of students. Adhering to the teaching style featuring in rigorous attitude and realistic approach, the College has established its own teaching principles of ‘Three Rigorousness’ (Rigorous style, strict requirement, serious attitude) and ‘Three Basics’ (Basic theory, elementary knowledge, fundamental skills).
After 60 years of teaching explorations and unremitting efforts from generations, virtuous cycle and significant development have being achieved in terms of talents cultivation, disciplinary development and curricula construction. For example, the college now has 25 subspecialties, developed out of the only two original specialties--newborn and general pediatric, including pediatric medicine, pediatric surgery, infection and digestion, child health care etc. Moreover, an integrated medical system with multilevel and multispecialty on pediatric education aimed at clinical medicine as well as non-clinical medicine has been formed.
