The Department of Respiratory Medicine was founded in the early 1980s by Professor Da Xu. With guiding of Professor Kunhua Chen, Professor Ruyi Zhang, and Professor Zhou Fu, it has been awarded as Chongqing Children Asthma Prevention and Treatment Center, Chongqing Medical Key Specialty and National Clinical Key Specialty. Several faculty members actively involve in Chinese Medical Association and hold leadership positions: National Committee Member, Deputy Head of Respiratory Medicine, Head of Clinical Pharmacology in Chinese Pediatric Societies. There are 3 wards with 160 beds, bronchoscope room, pediatric pulmonary function room, respiratory disease research room and outpatient section of asthma specialty. More than 8000 patients are discharged each year. As the diagnosis and treatment center for pediatric respiratory diseases, it is integrating medical care, education, research and training. We are honored to publish “Diagnosis and treatment guideline for chronic cough in Chinese children (2013 version)” and “Expert consensus on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of bronchiolitis (2014 version)”. We have undertaken 17 NSFC projects and more than 10 provincial projects, published more than 50 SCI papers, and obtained 13 provincial Awards for Progress in Science. More than 200 graduate students has been trained.
